  2. Capital District TransportationAuthority CDTA has six sites: 3 bus garages, 2 train stations and a training and communications center CDTA has 650 employees – about 360 are bus operators and about 120 are maintenance employees – we have a fleet of 300 busses

  3. CDTA CONTINUED CDTA operates fixed route and paratransit service trips within a 4 county area: Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga and Rensselaer CDTA ridership is currently about 16 million a year AMTRAK is our major tenant at our train stations in Rensselaer and Saratoga Springs

  5. HOW INJURIES OCCUR On average about 30% are slips/falls stepping on objects 20% are assisting patrons using wheelchairs and using accessible equipment 30% are lifting/ other activities mostly in maintenance

  6. SAFETY POLICY • CLEARLY STATES INDIVIDUAL RESPONSIBILITY • FUNDAMENTAL PART OF TRAINING • HOLDS EMPLOYEES ACCOUNTABLE

  7. INJURY PREVENTION Assess your environment Eliminate and report all obvious hazards Plan your work activities Know how to handle tools/equipment Read and follow all safety instructions Use PPE as required Keep all pits covered Work from floor level Avoid lifting if at all possible-ask for help

  8. INJURY PREVENTABILITY PROCESS • EVERY INJURY INVESTIGATED • EVERY INJURY JUDGED • DISCIPLINE ISSUED IF PREVENTABLE • LOSS OF AWARDS • MANDATORY REMEDIAL TRAINING
