  1. C-FOAM Seminar Series on Best Practices and the OMRN Dialogues on Ocean Policy, Fisheries & Aquaculture Working Group present: Environmental Non-Governmental Organisations and Their Roles in Ocean Governance - Advocates, Watchdogs or Policy Advisors? Dr. Joanna Vince, School of Government, University of Tasmania Launceston, Tasmania, Australia Time: 2:30p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2007 Place: Vanier Hall, Room VNR384 Abstract. Since the development and implementation of Australia’s Oceans Policy (AOP) (1998), the Australian federal government has involved ENGOs directly in the policy process. ENGOs are represented in the National Oceans Advisory Group that reports to the Government on AOP implementation and stakeholder issues. The current research in Canada will also examine the level of ENGO involvement in Canadian oceans governance. It will investigate whether ENGOs have added to their traditional roles of ‘advocates’ and ‘watchdogs’ a new role of ‘policy advisors’ to governments. La seminaire sera presenté en anglais./The presentation will be given in English. www.C-FOAM.management.uottawa.ca; www.management.uottawa.ca www.OMRN-RRGO.ca
