  1. Study of Certain Autoantibodies Production in Visceral Leishmaniasis Professor Dr. Baqur A. Sultan*Dep. of Microbiolgy, College of Medicine, Kufa University Assist. Professor Dr. Mohammad A. Al-Faham*Dep. of Microbiolgy, College of Medicine, Baghdad University. Dr. Raad Abdul-Alameer Al-Asady*Dep. of Microbiolgy, College of Medicine, Baghdad University

  2. Iraq is an endemic area for visceral leishmaniasis (VL) (kala-azar), which is caused Leishmaniadonovani. Patients with VL have markedly elevated immunoglobulin levels and associated with existence of autoantibodies against cellular and humoralcomponents . This study aimed to investigate the occurrence of some autoantibodies {anti-cardiolipin antibody (aCL), rheumatoid factor (RF), anti-neutrophilcytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)} in Iraqi children with VL.

  3. Patients, Materials & methods: - 135 children serologically proven visceral leishmaniasis (71 males and 64 females), whose ages ranged from 2 month to 12 years, with 36 healthy children were involved in this study. - (aCL) By enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), - (RF) By latex agglutination test (LAT) (ANCA) By IFAT -

  4. Table (1): Sex distribution of aCLseropositivity in VL cases and healthy controls .

  5. Table (2): Age and community-based distribution of aCLseropositivity in VL cases.

  6. Table (3): Sex distribution of RF seropositivity in VL cases and healthy control

  7. Table (4): Age and community-based distribution of RF seropositivity in VL cases.

  8. Table (5): ANCA seropositivity in VL cases and healthy controls according to staining pattern.

  9. Table (6): Sex distribution of ANCA seropositivity in VL cases and healthy controls.

  10. Table (7): Age and community-based distribution of ANCA seropositivity in VL cases.

  11. Figure 1: c-ANCA staining pattern on neutrophil cells (40X).

  12. Conclusion: There is a positive correlation between kala-azar and aCL or RF, but there is no correlation between certain age, sex and community of children with VL and aCL or RF. There is no correlation between VL and ANCA in this study.
