February 2013 HMS Faculty Meeting Highlights: Events, Testing, and Safety Updates
The HMS Faculty Meeting on February 26, 2013, covered upcoming events including the Lip Sync Competition and Dance on Friday, and the Science Olympiad Division B on Saturday. We recognize our dedicated 6th-9th grade team members. New student pass procedures (for computer lab visits) were introduced. Important NYS Testing guidelines were shared to ensure smooth assessments. The Family Food and Fitness Fair is set for March 6, alongside Cultural Diversity Day on March 8. A safety audit was conducted with local authorities to review emergency plans and improve traffic safety around the school.

Did You Hear? • The Lip Sync Competition and Dance is this Friday. • Additional chaperones (and family) are always welcome!

Check out the new pass! • This is an example of a pass you could write for a student to go to a computer lab. • Fill out student name and date • Check location and the room the student is coming from • Sign on first signature box with time • Second signature would be if the student returns to your classroom
Request Pass • If you need a student to come to your room during an Encore fill out student name, date, and “to room” • Then sign on the request line with the time you need the student • The Encore teacher will fill out the “from room” along with signing on the first signature line with a time • If the student is returning to their original Encore the requesting teacher would sign again on the second signature line with the time the student is returning to Encore
Testing Directions • http://engageny.org/resource/test-guides-for-english-language-arts-and-mathematics When Students Have Completed Their Tests: • Students who finish their assessment before the allotted time expires should be encouraged to go back and check their work. Once the student checks his or her work, or chooses not to, examination materials should be collected by the proctor. • No talking is permitted and no other schoolwork is permitted. Students will sit quietly until the testing time expires.

Cultural Diversity Day March 8 • Students will be grouped by fire drill lines. • More specifics will be coming soon. • Thank you to everyone who volunteered to present!
Safety Audit • John Crangle met with local police agencies to conduct a safety audit and to review our emergency plans. • A district safety committee will work to align building plans. • Traffic continues to be a concern and we will continue to work with parents, students, staff and bus drivers to improve safety. • Please, Please, Please be aware that it is illegal to pass a bus during dismissal when the lights are flashing. • Plan ahead if you need to leave before the busses.
