  2. WHY? • KEEPING A CULMINATING LEARNING ACTIVITY WAS A DISTRICT DECISION APPROVED BY THE BOARD OF EDUCATION. • EVERY HIGH SCHOOL IN THE DISTRICT IS PARTICIPATING IN CLA. • CLA PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU TO DEMONSTRATE WHAT YOU ARE ABLE TO DO AND WHAT YOU KNOW.

  3. CHANGES? • CLA HAS FOUR PARTS • RESEARCH PAPER – SAME • PRESENTATION – SAME • PRODUCT – CHANGES • E-FOLIO – CHANGES

  4. CHANGES…. E – FOLIO You will be given a verification checklist in homeroom of items to complete in f4k for the E-folio. You will receive help in English and help is offered every Friday during Empower Hour activity and study sessions. THE E-FOLIO is now about self and career exploration instead of about forms.

  5. Changes… • PRODUCT – The product does not require a mentor or a set number of hours. Outside help is encouraged. • You may ask a faculty member and work on an advanced academic project by securing their agreement and signing a contract with the teacher. • You may work with a relative. • Product must be related to the research paper and show a learning stretch. It must be part of your presentation

  6. Research Paper • Research Paper is written in senior English, must have a thesis and be related to your product.

  7. PRESENTATION • Presentation is to a panel of judges and will be scored with a rubric. Guidelines will be available on the website. This is the only one of the three parts of the project that will not be graded by your senior English teacher.

  8. MAJOR CHANGE • CLA IS NOT A GRADUATE / NOT GRADUATE SYSTEM OR A PASS / FAIL SYSTEM. • PREVIOUSLY ONLY THE RESEARCH PAPER WAS COUNTED IN THE SENIOR ENGLISH GRADE – NOW ALL FOUR PARTS WILL BE COUNTED IN THE SENIOR ENGLISH GRADE. • THE WEIGHT OF THE FOUR PARTS WILL SIGNIFICANTLY IMPACT YOUR SENIOR ENGLISH GRADE WHICH IS A REQUIREMENT FOR GRADUATION.
