  1. Equipment Testing Update Madison, WI April 2013

  2. Sensor Study

  3. Sensor Study – Percent Time Open

  4. Next Steps • Study continues • Repairs to Eigenbrodt and 7-grid sensor pending • Re-wiring planned (bury power cables for Canadian and Thies no-heater sensors) • Hobo software bug • Cracks in top cover

  5. Thies Sensor cannot be repaired Replacement costs: top cover: ~$72 bottom cover: ~$66 circuit board: ~$170 complete unit: $530

  6. Sensor Power

  7. candidate heaters 1, 4, 5 tested: 100 Ω, 250 Ω, and 390 Ω original heater

  8. 157Ω resistor (candidate heater #3) 78.4Ω resistor (candidate heater #2) blue tape melted to surface of resistor metal tape used between heater and blue tape to prevent tape from melting to surface of resistor

  9. Thoughts • Operate heater only when the sensor is triggered OR only when the temperature is below a threshold value • Implications to MDN • Standard sensor across all wet-deposition networks • Winter operation still a problem • Change motorbox from 24 VAC to 24 VDC or 12 VDC – eliminate the need for an inverter

  10. NTN Bag Sampling

  11. Bondville 3 ACM collectors (NTN, and 2 bag samplers) OttPluvioraingage

  12. Arvada 2 N-CON collectors Ott Pluvio2

  13. MDN Evaporation Tests

  14. HAL prototype N-CON ACM

  15. N-CON thistle tube HAL prototype thistle tube

  16. Belfort Electronic Raingage
