  4. Companies doing chip/board design in power management: Linear Technology, Intersil, National Semiconductor, TI, Maxium, ON semiconductor, International Rectifier, Broadcom, Qualcomm, Skywork,, Triquent, etc.

  5. Linear Regulator is still in use, but the transistor is in saturation region. Such as LDO regulator. A LDO regulator is a DC linear voltage regulator which operates with very small input-output differential voltage. The advantages of LDO: Minimum operating voltage, high efficiency, and low heat dissipation
