  1. History of VCU VCU’s founding date was 1838, from the year the Medical College of Virginia was created as the medical department of Hampden-Sydney College. MCV became independent in 1854 and state-affiliated in 1860. Virginia Commonwealth University’s Monroe Park Campus began in 1917 as the Richmond School of Social Work and Public Health. In 1925, it became the Richmond division of the College of William and Mary; and in 1939, its name was changed to Richmond Professional Institute. It separated from William and Mary in 1962 to become an independent state institution. In 1968, Gov. Mills E. Godwin Jr. signed VCU into existence, based on recommendations set forth in a 1967 report developed by a legislative commission led by Edward A. Wayne Sr., president of the Richmond Federal Reserve Bank.

For an MFA: The time needed to complete the degree depends on how many courses you take each semester and the time taken to conduct research and complete a thesis. Full time students who are already licensed and take 9-12 hours per semester and hours in the summer may expect to complete their degree in 2 years. Part time students should expect the degree to take longer.

  8. I would like to pursue this career in Art Education because it sounds interesting. I want to learn different Art techniques that I haven’t learned in high school and I want to teach to children that love Art like me. • The personality traits I have that best match this career is: • patience, artistic, friendly, and love kids • The advantages of working within this career field is that I get to work with kids and do what I love to do, Art. • The disadvantages are all the hours that you have to do and all the money for tuition to get your Masters degree and that I am on my own away from my family. • One interesting fact that I discovered during this research was how expensive and long it takes to get a degree. • Sources: • www.vcu.edu, www.myfuture.com, and www.careers.org
