PAUL ARTHUR 1924 - 2001 Graphic designer Paul Arthur is often credited with coining the terms ‘signage’ and ‘wayfinding’, concepts that have become fundamental for both graphic designers and architects. Designer BranimirZlamalik worked with Arthur to develop more than 530 coordinated graphic symbols, representing everyday actions and situations.

Use a range of media for these. • Formal, written analysis of Artists’ work. Use help sheet for this. Week commencing 5th November 2012: • Experimentation with overlapping, distorting, manipulating letterforms to create illustrations that identify an idea, thing, person. • Produce design ideas for a graphic symbol/illustration that represents the identity of a person/group of people/entity: Week commencing 12th November 2012: • Initial design ideas for an outcome. (Mind map and drawn ideas) • Explore media. Use relevant taught techniques that you’ve already learnt this year. Take creative risks. • Finalise your design. • If it is a 2D design, draw it out. • If it is a 3D design, prepare and cut the materials you will be using.
