What’s Cooler Than Being Ice Cold?
Shaved Ice “It’s the bomb!” -Skyline High School basketball player Presented By: Justin Andersen Paul Coles Jen Kitches Taisja Romero
History: What It Is… • Shaved ice, is just that… ice shaved from a solid block until it is fine and fluffy - like fresh Utah snow. • Shaved ice acts as a sponge absorbing the colored syrup so customers get flavor in every bite. • Typically served in paper cups and eaten with a straw that has a small scoop on the end.
Location: Where to Find It… • Typically situated in parking lots with high visibility and easy access. • Also found in heavily foot-trafficked areas like strip malls or grocery stores. Locations.
Who’s Going to Be There… • Shaved Ice shacks attract a large market of consumers. • Busiest in the mid-afternoon when many children stop for a treat after swimming or other activities. • Business picks up again in the evenings when families, often pushing strollers or riding bikes and scooters, come for an after-dinner treat. • Later in the evening, it’s a popular place for teenagers to hook up with friends.
When The Party Starts… • Shaved ice lovers can only enjoy their treat between Memorial Day and Labor Day. • "There's only a window of time you can eat a raspberry off the bush or a peach off the tree. Shaved ice falls into that same category.“ - Carl Rupp
“It’s the place where everyone meets up. It's like if you don't know where you are going to hang out at night, you just go to the Sno Shack because everyone is there hanging out. It's the cool place to meet up with your friends on summer nights.” - Robby Sorensen
