B aim – to explain using supporting evidence what the 1918-1919 German Revolution wasA/A* aim – to defend your decision against counter-arguments The experience of Germany in WWI • At the beginning all Germans supported the war • British blockade of Germany 1914-1919 • All food was redirected to the troops • Turnip Winter – 1916-1917 • 470,000 civilians died from 1914-1919 from exhaustion, malnutrition and disease • Schlieffen Plan failed as the Belgians held them back very well • Germans suffered fewer casualties at the Somme and Verdun • Morale was low until 1917 when Germany managed to beat Serbia, Greece, Italy and Russia. Ludendorff promised the West would be beaten next in a ‘peace offensive’. • In 1918 the Germans launched a final push against the British. The British realised that they should retreat, let the Germans overextend themselves and then counterattack. The Americans arrived to further support the British. The Germans realised they would lose and surrendered on enemy soil.
