Q2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?
Our female Character The characters, both male and female, that you will find in our entire film will be college age so 16-18. In the opening scene you only see the female protagonist / antagonist. They will be mixed race and their social class will be mainly middle class because they all go to a state college but some people could lower and a few higher - their costume will suggest a middle class status. Some of the will have part time jobs but most will be in full time college and wont have time to work and the nationality, again, will mainly be English with a few different. I think our main character is a fairly typical teenager for thrillers, to everyone else she seems like a normal girl that goes out wit her friends and listens to all the chart music but there is something going on with her that no one understands. In most of the film she comes across as a helpless, vulnerable teenager but towards the end it comes clear that she has been an aggressive person, she is a typical hoodie girl. For the flash backs we had her dress in youngish clothes with bright colours and for her to act like she is happy to be out with her friends. Then in the real time filming, we had her dress in all black to show how her emotions have changed since that bad event ha happened, and that she is a completely different person. This is typical for thrillers as the main character normally starts of having a normal life and then something happened for them to change but no one knows what going on.
I think our character shows a good representation of a typical teenage thriller character. She at the start she seems all innocent and people feel sorry for her being around while her parents were killed and then every time someone has been killed/died she goes all shady and her mood changes. This is similar to the main female character from Hard Candy. Hard Candy is a film about a 14 year old girl raids a man's home, suspecting he is a paedophile, in order to expose him. She starts talking to this man online for about three weeks, the arranged to meet him in a café. While there they really get on and he talking about waiting until she's 18 but she suggest that they go to his house. She suspects he’s a paedophile, so at his house she makes him a drink, he passes out and wake up tied to a chair with her trying to get him to admit he’s a paedophile whilst torturing him. This is similar to our character in the way of her personality, in the beginning she come across as a sweet innocent girl, who then turn out to be that bad guy. Also, they costumes and make-up are similar to our film. Very basic costumes, nothing expensive and they are not obviously wearing any make-up so the look very natural. The girl in Hard Candy is 14 but she looks and acts older, so she is more like the age of our main character. In our film, one of the main props is her phone and how its always ringing, in Hard Candy, there are two main props. The computer that they were talking on that got them to know each other. Then you find out he’s a photographer so that camera becomes important because she thinks he is using it for indecent things. The main location for our film is in the college as that is were most of the things happen, in Hard Candy they are in his house for most of the time. Hard Candy Trailer
