  1. Instructions for Using the Phonak Wireless FM System Inservice

  2. Morning Procedure:Turning the FM Transmitter On • Gently press and hold the top button on the back of the microphone unit until the unit turns on.

  3. Morning Procedure:Attaching the FM Receiver and Boot • Turn the receiver to the third position which has two green dots. This amplifies the voice of who is wearing the microphone. • Teacher or responsible adult should attach the boot by opening the trap door and exposing the microchip. The boot then rocks into place on the bottom of the hearing aid. • Cinch the microphone to a distance 6 - 8 inches from the mouth – usually upper chest height. • Test that the student is hearing by asking a question from a distance of 10 feet, such as “What is your name?”

  4. Use of FM System throughout the School Setting • Microphone should be transferred from teacher to other staff members (i.e. Media Specialist, PE Coach). The transfer should take place from one adult’s hands to the other. • The microphone should be worn by any adult speaker working one on one, in a small group, or with the whole class when deaf student is present.

  5. Document daily performance and use of the FM System and hearing aids. The teacher must remove the FM receiver and boot from the student’s hearing aids. The microphone and FM receiver and boot should be kept in an established location within the classroom. The microphone must be turned off and charged every night. End of Day Procedure

  6. Documentation • Documentation must be recorded on a daily basis using provided check list and parent communication records (i.e. agenda with documentation). • If a problem or concern arises during the day within the school setting, please immediately contact the Teacher of Deaf/Hard of Hearing who is assigned to your student. • Documentation is our best verification that the accommodations on the IEP are being provided.
