TV Use • Five out of nine (55.6%) girls watch TV every day • Fourteen out of fifteen (93.3%) boys watch TV every day • The girl’s favorite show is American Idol • The boy’s favorite show is the Simpsons
Movies-Girls • Most girls go to the movie theater less than once a week and watch movies at home about once a week. • The girl’s top five movies are: Cheaper by the Dozen, Finding Nemo, Dirty Dancing, Runaway Bride, and Ella Enchanted.
Movies-Boys • Most boys go to the movie theater less than once a week and watch movies at home about once a week. • The boy’s top five movies are: Happy Gilmore, Spiderman, Hellboy, Slapshot and Billy Madison.
Magazines • The girls were split between those that read magazines several times each week and those that read them about once a week. • Most boys read magazines about once a week. • Most girls read magazines such as J-14 and Teen People. • Most boys read Sports Illustrated or other sport magazines.
Books and Newspapers • 53.3% of boys are reading a book out of school, while 77.8% of girls are reading a book out of school. • Most girls and boys read the newspaper less than once a week.
Favorite books-Girls • The girl’s top 5 favorite books:Series of Unfortunate Events, Everything on a Waffle, Walk Two Moons, Ella Enchanted and Holes.
Favorite Books-Boys • The boys top 5 favorite books are:Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Holes, Bad Beginning, and Indian in the Cupboard.Also, the boys read more biographies than the girls do.
Library • Most girls and boys check out books from the school or public library less than once a week. • Most girls and boys never use the web at the public library.
Computer use • The majority of girls and boys have a computer at home. • In most homes the computer is in the den. • The majority of girls and boys have the internet on their computers. • Most girls and boys use the internet every day.
Books vs. Internet • 6 girls and 12 boys preferred the internet when doing research rather than using books, because it is easier, faster, and gives you access to more information. • 3 boys and 3 girls preferred to research using books, because it is easier, the web’s wrong, and you can’t always find what you want on the web.
Jobs • The top 3 jobs for girls are: teacher, lawyer, and actress. • The top 3 jobs for boys are: police officer, hockey player, and football player. • The top 3 places kids would go for information on jobs are: web sites, public library, or a family member.
