Adopted: 8/17/10 Updated: 3/26/2013 Logic Model: Power Academy at PS 85 Developed by New York City Mission Society Department of Quality & Evaluation Outcomes – Impact Short Term Medium Term Long Term Inputs Activities Outputs Staff Volunteers Time Money Research Materials Equipment Technology Partners Provide after-school and out-of-school (weekend & holiday) programming for 244 K-5 students, in safe & healthy environment Provide healthy snacks and supper Provide homework help 4 days/week and academic enrichment 1-2 hrs/week Provide 1 hour/week of each type of enrichment activity: financial literacy, Kidz Lit, Kidz Math, Kidz Science Provide 1-2 hrs/week of STEM activities Provide 3+ hrs/week of health & fitness and recreational activities (martial arts, Hip Hop/aerobics, sports, computers, arts & crafts, science, Cookshop, music, drama, salsa, etc.) Facilitate special events & trips Provide Saturday activities/events 1x/month Update databases by due dates & maintain complete files • # of students (244+) • # receiving snacks/meals • # of meals/snacks provided • # receiving homework help • # receiving academic enrichment support • # of hours of homework help/enrichment provided • # and type of activities • # attending • # of hours of activities • # of special events/trips • # attending (children & parents) • # of volunteers • # of Saturday events • # of community partners • # of volunteers • # of staff trainings Students are free of risks to their health & safety during after-school & out-of-school hours Students build academic skills & learn the importance of academic success Students feel supported in school & beyond Students learn about health & nutrition Participants are exposed to new ideas & experiences through activities, events, & trips Students demonstrate improved academic performance Participants exhibit a renewed sense of confidence Participants lead healthy & active lives Participants do not engage in risky behaviors Personal growth increases; Youth development increases in community Academic achievement increases: elementary school students move forward to middle school, high school, and post-high school success Health and well-being is improved for individuals & community Problem statement: After school hours are the peak time for juvenile crime and risky behaviors, yet every day at least 8 million children are left alone and unsupervised after school. Many families, especially those in underserved and under-resourced communities, do not have access to a safe place for children after school hours.
