  1. Welcome to 5th Grade Track A Ms. Hughes

  2. Rules for Parents • Always be supportive of your student even during difficult and frustrating times. • Call or email the teacher if you ever have questions. Students hear what they want to hear and often misunderstand what the teacher has said or assigned. • Check over your child’s homework each night. If they don’t complete or attempt assignments, I can’t help them to grow as learners.

Reading • Read nightly 30 minutes minimum. • Read an AR book and take a test every week!! • Shining Star Reader Awards for meeting your monthly reading goals. • Meet your Accelerated Reader (AR) goals each month. • Class Cash and prizes for meeting your reading goals. • Once you get behind, it is really hard to get caught up!!

Grading Policy • 4 = 90-100% Advanced • 3 = 75-89% Proficient • 2 = 60-74% Basic • 1 – 0-59% Below Basic • At-risk students – Parents will be notified at first conference meeting. • Friday Folder Grades • O = Outstanding – Student has completed all assignments and has had no behavior issues. • S = Satisfactory – Student has missed assignments and has minor behavior issues to work on • U = Unsatisfactory – Many missing assignments and serious behavior issues.

  8. Computers/Internet • Parents need to sign the Internet Permission forms for their child. • Computer Lab once each week with more time added when available. • Weekly assignments on Study Island, United Streaming, and the Hughes Class Blog. • Students without Internet will be given time in class to complete assignments.
