  3. Communication • Assignment Sheet/Calendar • Take Home Envelope • Conduct Cards will come home each Friday in the Take Home envelope and are returned signed on Monday • Conference Time: 2:05–3:00 p.m.

Homework • Every Friday students will take home Daily Math Homework (DMH), Daily Language Homework (DLH), and Spelling Words. • 15 minutes of daily reading is expected and parents will sign the assignment calendar to show that students read during the week. • All homework is due the next Friday. • Any special projects will be noted on the calendar.

  6. Grades This is the first year that your children will be getting number grades. Graded work must be completed at school. A = 90-100 B = 80-89 C = 75-79 D = 70-74 F = 69 and below

  7. Behavior/Conduct Grades E - Excellent (Exceeds Expectations) S - Satisfactory (Meets Expectations) N - Improvement Needed U – Unsatisfactory (An N or U in any area will prevent your child from being on the honor roll.)

  8. Daily Schedule 7:55-8:10 Arrive, unpack, and get ready for class 8:10-11:30 LA or Math/Science 11:30-12:00 Lunch 12:00-12:20 Recess 12:20-2:05 LA or Math/Science 2:05-3:00 P.E./Art or Music 3:00-3:10 Dismissal

Reading levels 16, 18, 20, 24 and 28 • Students enter second grade reading on level 16. • By mid-year, students are expected to read on level 24. • At the end of the year, students are expected to read on a level 28 for promotion to third grade. • Reading levels will be posted on the report card. Levels tested on the benchmark will be reported on the 1st, 2nd, and 4th report card. • The 3rd report card may or may not have a change in the reading level depending on the level your child was reading at the mid-year benchmark. This is because there is no level between 24 and 28.

Word Study • Spelling is taught through patterns and associations. • Children will spend 10-15 minutes daily sorting their spelling words. • Types of sorts will include closed, open, buddy, and ABC order. • A list of spelling words will be sent home on Friday with activities to do with the words.

  14. Library Day • Wednesday is our library day. • Children may check out two books. • Please help your child remember to return library books on Wednesday.

  21. General Information • It is hot outside! Students are allowed to bring a water bottle. Water only, please. • P.E. is on Mon., Wed., and Fri. Please send your child in tennis shoes on those days. • If they are cold inside, students can leave a jacket at school.

  22. “Grab and Go” Breakfast Upon entering the school, students go through the cafeteria line to get a bagged breakfast. Students take their breakfast to the classroom and eat it there, allowing for additional instructional time. Breakfast costs $1.00. Menus are available at the CFISD website. Click on departments then food service.

  23. Dress Code Shorts and skirts must be below the students’ fingertips when arms are fully extended along the body. Pants should not be revealing, even when sitting down. Sleeveless shirts should have thick straps, not spaghetti straps.

  24. Thank you for coming! • Please be sure to sign up for conferences on Monday, October 10th before you leave. • There is a sign up sheet if you would like to volunteer for Homeroom Parent or Junior Achievement. • Second Grade Handbook can be viewed from the Moore Website.
