  2. Columbus’s early life • Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa, Italy in 1451. • He was very young when his career started. • Columbus was around the age of 16 or above.

  3. First voyage • On August 3,1492 Columbus, and his crew, and 3 ships named the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria set sail. • Covering about 150 miles a day, the trip was long. • On October 12, a crew member on the Pinta sighted one of the Bahama Islands. • When Columbus landed in Cuba, he first thought he found Japan.

  4. To north america • On the mission to find North America, Columbus sailed for King Ferdinand the second and Queen Isabella of Spain. • The second trip was on September 25, 1493 to June 11, 1496. • He sailed with 17 ships and 1,200 to 1,500 men. • Columbus spotted and named the island of Dominica on November 3,1493.

  5. Third mission • The third mission was May 30,1493. • Columbus sailed farther to Trinidad and Venezuela including the mouth of the Orinoco river.

  6. Columbus last years • Columbus returned to Spain in 1504. • He died on May 20,1506. • Until death, he remained convinced he had reached Asia.
