  2. Life span • Christopher Columbus was born on October 31, 1451 • Died May 20,1506

  3. Voyage • His first voyage was in 1492. • He was the first European to explore the Americas. • His European contact with America lead to European exploration and colonization.

  4. Why did Columbus go on his voyage? • Christopher Columbus believed if he sailed west he would reach the Indies. But he founded the Americas instead.

  5. What is the result of his voyage? • The results to Columbus's voyages is that he founded the Americas. Then with Columbus finding the Americas that led to Europeans coming to the Americas.

  6. Columbus Voyages. • These are the four voyages that Columbus went on.

  7. Facts • Queen Isabel and King Fernando agreed that if Columbus had success on his voyage he would get the lavish demands that he wanted. • Columbus was granted the coat of arms in 1493. By 1502 he had added new elements.

  8. FACTS • Columbus promised gold to whoever spotted land first. • On October 12,1492 a sailor named Rodrigo de Triana spotted land. • Rodrigo de Triana never got the gold. Columbus kept it all for himself. • The Santa Maria sank and made Columbus leave 39 men behind.

  9. Facts • The king and queen of Spain made Columbus governor because he found them new land. • Columbus believed God had singled him out to go on this voyage. • Columbus was expected to find something valuable on each of his voyages
