Fats • Examples: dairy, nuts, some meats, etc.…. • Helps produce cholesterol • A component food • Good/unsaturated fat are both: monounsaturated & polyunsaturated • Types: • good fat (Unsaturated) • bad fat ( saturated & trans fat)
Proteins • Examples: beef, poultry, fish, eggs etc.… • Builds, maintains and replaces tissues • Protects you from disease • Types: • Simple (Amino acids) • Conjugated (glycoproteins) • Organs and immune are made of this
Vitamins • Examples: (A)- carrots, (C)- oranges, & (B)- leafy greens, etc… • Helps your body grow and develop • Main vitamins: A, B & C • Found in water & fat • Fat soluble (stay stored in your body for awhile) • Water soluble (travel through bloodstream) • In the foods we eat • Helps growth, energy, tissue repair, waste removal, etc…. • Types: • fat soluble • water soluble
Minerals • Examples: red meat, waters, pills, etc... • Builds strong bones • transmits nerve impulses • Potassium- strengthens nervous & muscles system • Types: Macro and Trace • Macro (body needs large amounts) • Trace (body needs small amounts)
