In 1878, a sharecropper in Tennessee sees a poster about free land opportunities in the West. This inspires him to write to a friend, inviting them to embark on a journey filled with hope and challenges. He dreams of a better life away from debt and oppression, aiming for self-sufficiency. However, he anticipates difficulties like harsh weather, uncertainty about resources, and the need for community support to thrive. In addition, he reflects on the vital role of women on the frontier, advancements in technology that shaped farming, and the daily struggles of homesteading life.
