  12. ALTAMIRA CAVE The Cave of Altamira is located near the town Santillana del Mar (Cantabria). It is famous for its Upper Paleolithic cave paintings featuring drawings and polychrome rock paintings of wild mammals and human hands.   15. ALHAMBRA Alhambra is a palace and fortress complex of the Moorish rulers of Granada, in southern Spain. It is now one of Spain's major tourist attractions exhibiting the country's most famous Islamic architecture. Alhambra was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1984 and 1994.

  16. CITY WALLS OF ÁVILA Ávila is most known for the medieval city walls, that were constructed of brown granite in 1090: surmounted by a breastwork, with eighty-eight towers and nine gateways. They are still in excellent repair, but a large part of the city lies beyond their perimeter. They were declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO in 1985. Middle Age

  19. Santiago de Compostela cathedral The Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is located in the city of the same name in the centre of the province of La Coruña, in Galicia.   20. EL ESCORIAL The Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial is sited in Madrid. It was built by Juan Bautista de Toledo and Juan de Herrera from 1563 and 1584.   21. PALAU DE LA MÚSICA CATALANA Palau de la Música Catalana was designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, one of the most important architects of Catalan Modernism. It was built between 1905 and 1908.   23. Museo del Prado The Museo del Prado is a museum and art gallery located in Madrid. It features one of the world's finest collections of European art, from the 12th century to the early 19th century. It has a big collection of Spanish, Italian and Flemish paintings. The museum was opened in 1819.

  24. Guggenheim Museum Guggenheim Museum is a museum of modern and contemporary art designed by Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry. It is sited in Bilbao (País Vasco). It features permanent and visiting exhibits of works by Spanish and international artists. The museum was opened to the public in 1997.

  25. City of the Arts and the Sciences The City of the Arts and the Sciences is an entertainment-based cultural and architectural complex in the city of Valencia. It is situated at the end of the old riverbed Turia. It was designed by Santiago calatrava and Félix Candela and it was inaugurated in 1998. The city is made up of several buildings: l’Hemisfèric (an Imax cinema, Planetarium and Laserium), l’Oceanogràfic (aquarium), l’Umbracle (plant species and contemporary art gallery of sculptures)...

  27. CERVANTES Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra was a Spanish novelist, poet and playwright. His magnum opus, Don Quijote, often considered the first modern novel, is a classic of Western literature and is regularly regarded among the best novels ever written. His work is considered among the most important in all of literature. He was born on the 29th of September in 1547 and died on the 23rd of April in 1616.

DON QUIJOTE DE LA MANCHA Don Quijote, fully titled El ingenioso hidalgo don Quijote de la Mancha (The Ingenious Hidalgo Don Quixote of La Mancha) is a novel written by Spanish author Miguel de Cervantes. It is the second-most translated book in the world, after the Bible. Published in two volumes a decade apart (in 1605 and 1615), Don Quijote is the most influential work of literature to emerge from the Spanish Golden Age and it regularly appears high on lists of the greatest works of fiction ever published in modern Western literature. PLOT SUMMARY Alonso Quixano, a retired country gentleman in his fifties, lives in an unnamed section of La Mancha with his niece and a housekeeper. He has become obsessed with books of chivalry, and believes their every word to be true, despite the fact that many of the events in them are clearly impossible. Quixano eventually appears to other people to have lost his mind from little sleep and food and because of so much reading.

Nowadays she is quite famous in Hollywood. Penélope Cruz has won the Best Supporting actress Oscar from “Vicky Cristina Barcelona” in 2009.

  35. AlejandroAmenábar He is a famous film director. He was born in Chile but when he was one year old came to Spain with his family. He has win very awards from their films. Some of his films are: The Others, Ágora... He has won an Oscar from The Sea Inside(2005) Antonio Banderas He was the first Spanish actor who has achieved to work in Hollywood since the 90’s. He is married with Melanie Griffith. Antonio has been the first Spanish actor to be nominated for Golden Globe, Tony and Emmy Awards.

  37. FOOTBALL The most important football teams in Spain are F.C. Barcelona and Real.Madrid. vs

  38. Basketball The best Spanish teams in in basketball are Madrid, Barcelona and DKV Joventut..

  39. HANDBALL The national handball team has won several medals in great international competitions: 3 bronze medals at Olympics (Atlanta, Sydney and Beijing), 3 silver medals and 1 bronze medal at Europe Championships and a golden medal at World Championships (in 2005).

  40. TENNIS There has been some important Spanish tennis players for last years. Nowadays, Rafael Nadal is the best. He has won 4 Roland Garros Grand Slam (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008) and a golden medal at the Olympics (Beijing), among other titles. He is World Nº 2 tennis player after Roger Federer.

  41. Cycling The most famous Spanish road racing cyclist is MiguelIndurain. He won all the Tour de France from 1991 to 1995. Nowadays the most important road bicycle racer is Alberto Contador. He has won 3 Tour de France (2007, 2009), the Giro d’Italia (2008) and the Vuelta a España (2008).

  42. FORMULA 1 Fernando Alonso is a Spanish Formula One racing driver and a two-time World Champion, who will be racing in 2010 for the Scuderia Ferrari team.

  43. MOTORCYCLING Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix is the premier championship of motorcycle road racing currently divided into three distinct classes: 125cc, 250cc and MotoGP (500cc). Nowadays, the most famous Spanish motorcyclists are: 125cc: Julián Simón 250cc: Héctor Barberá MotoGP: Jorge Lorenzo, Dani Pedrosa Ángel Nieto and Àlex Crivillé has been also important Spanish motorcyclists years ago. Ángel was a motorcycle roadracing World Champion 13 times from 1969 to 1984.

  44. Festivals Epiphany Holy Week San Fermín Fallas

  45. Semana Santa (Holy Week) Holy Week is the annual commemoration in the Christian calendar of the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. In Andalucía and other regions, some people walk in procession through the streets carrying on the sculptures of Virgins and Jesus from the churches, among other activities.

  46. Día de Reyes (Epiphany) In Spain we celebrate the Epiphany on the 6th of January. Traditionallyin this day children receive gifts commemorating those presents that the Magi brought to Baby Jesus (according to Saint Matthew’s Gospel). People also eat a typical dessert called Roscón de Reyes).

  47. Les Falles The Falles are a Valencian traditional celebration during the week leading up to 19th of March. The term Falles refers to both the celebration and the monuments created during the celebration. Each neighbourhood elaborate a grand parade (firecracker-filled cardboard and papier-mâché artistic monument) in a street. On the final night of Falles, around midnight on March 19th, these falles are burnt as huge bonfires.

  48. San Fermín The festival of San Fermín is celebrated in Pamplona (region of Navarra) for one week from 6th to 14th of July. The most famous event is the encierro, the running of the bulls. It involves hundreds of people running in front of six bulls and another six steers down an 825-metres stretch of narrow streets of a section of the old town of Pamplona. Another event is that a replica of the statue of Saint Fermin (the co-patron of Navarra) is accompanied by dancers, street entertainers and thousand people along the streets. The week-long celebration involves many other traditional and folkloric events.
