Objective • SWBAT differentiate rights, privileges, duties, and responsibilities of citizens • SWBAY describe individual and civic responsibilities of US citizens • SWBAT determine the importance of working in the community
Responsibilities: things we should do • They are obligationsthat we meet on our own free will • As Americancitizens we have to fulfill our responsibilities.
Duties: things we legally have to do • National, state, and local governments require American citizens to perform certain duties

Being Involved: • Volunteerism: offering your time and services to others without receiving payment • More than 63 million people aged 16 and up do volunteer work • What are some ways that you can volunteer in your community?
Task • Turn to the person next to you • Brainstorm on a piece of paper ways that you can volunteer/help your • Neighborhood • School • City
