  2. Why did Hsiang-ling give the Ch’i-lin purse to a stranger? The bride was crying on her wedding day. At first she thought it was bad luck for someone to cry on her wedding day, but then Hsiang-ling felt sorry for her.

  3. Why did Hsiang-ling’s servant begin to cry? He was not able to please Hsiang-ling and he was humiliated in the shop.

  4. What happened after Hsiang-ling gave her porridge away at the distribution center? She accepted a job as a governess for the little boy.
