  1. DC Trip Info Everything you need to know before we leave

  2. Departure • We will leave from CCHS at 7:00 a.m. Monday morning. • We will leave from the parking lot of the Moyock Food Lion at 7:30. • Please be on time! • Please designate at which location you plan to be picked up.

  3. Luggage • We have very limited space! • Please pack lightly. • Each person is allotted one small suitcase and one carry-on bag.

  4. What to Wear • Comfortable shoes—you will be doing a great deal of walking. • Bring layers to wear. Cool in the morning and evening and very warm in the afternoon, so it is difficult to dress “just right.” • Please dress appropriately as you will be representing our school.

  5. DC Itinerary—Day 1 • 7:00 a.m. Leave CCHS • 7:30 a.m. pick up folks at Food Lion in Moyock • 8:30 a.m. stop get a snack, use restroom, etc. • 1:00 lunch stop at Potomac Mills in Dale City, VA • 2:30 arrive at hotel; check in, put stuff in rooms • 3:00 Metro into the district for Mall area visit & to get familiar with District • 4:30-5:30 dinner stop at Union Station • 5:30-6:30 Metro to Foggy Bottom/GWU stop to catch Kennedy Center Shuttle • 7:00 Shear Madness-Arrive no later than 6:30 • Night time tour of Memorials--Back to hotel by 11:30 pm-rooms by 12 midnight.

  6. Itinerary—Day 2 • Leave hotel by 8:45 with small group. Take Metro to Capitol South stop. • 10:20-11:30 Tour of Capitol Hill. Meet on Capitol steps by 9:50. • 11:30-2:30 Lunch on your own • 2:30-2:50 Metro to Arlington National Cemetery. Meet at front gate no later than 3:00. • 3:15 visit Eternal Flame/Kennedy Grave site • 4:00-4:30 Wreath Laying Ceremony • Dinner on your own • 6:30-7:00 Metro to Farragut West Metro stop for group photo. Be there no later than 7:15.

  7. Itinerary—Day 3 • 8:45-9:00 Metro in to District with your small group. Metro to Capitol South stop. • 10:00-11:30 Tour of the US Supreme Court. Meet on steps on SCOTUS at 9:30. • Your choice of activity! • Leave District via Metro no later than 2:00. • Report back to the Americana Motel by 2:50. Bus leaves at 3:00! • Stop for dinner around Richmond. • Return home by 10:00 p.m.

  8. Rules • This trip is a school trip—school rules of behavior are expected. • Do not leave Americana after 8:00 pm without an adult. Be in room by midnight. • Never go anywhere alone. • Do not get loud or rowdy in your room-we are not the only guests at the Hotel! • No running or congregating in hallways. • Do not sit or hang on the railings—this place is vintage! • Please show me and all adults respect. • Don’t be late for any scheduled activities—give yourself and your group plenty of time to get places.

  9. Money • Breakfast is free every morning at hotel. • You may bring snacks for trip—Clean up after yourselves, though. • You need about $100 for meals and travel—you have about 7 meals not covered. • Metro cards can be bought and add money to as needed. Day passes are good after 9:30 a.m. • Most places also take debit cards, but definitely bring cash.

Tell what line and what direction you need to take. • You leave the Americana Motel and want the quickest route to the Archives. • You must leave the Americana Motel to get to Arlington Cemetery. • You need to get from the National Zoo back to the Americana Motel. • You must leave the Capitol Hill area to get to Union Station for dinner. • After seeing Sheer Madness, the shuttle drops you at GWU. You want to dine in Chinatown. • You are visiting the National Gallery and need to get to Farragut West for the group photo.

  13. ANSWERS! • Take the yellow line toward Mt. Vernon Square. Get off at Archives. • Take the blue line toward Largo Town Center. Get off at Arlington. • Get on the red line toward Glenmont at Woodley Park. Transfer to the blue line toward Franconia-Springfield at Metro Center. Get off at Crystal City. • Get on either the orange or the blue line toward either Vienna or Franconia. Transfer to the green or yellow line toward Mt. Vernon or Greenbelt at L'Enfant Plaza. Transfer to the red line toward Glenmont. Get off at Union Station. • Get on either the orange or the blue line toward Carrolton or Largo Town at GWU. Transfer to the red line at Metro Center toward Glenmont. Get off at Chinatown. • Get on either the yellow line toward Huntington or green line to Branch Ave. Do a transfer at L’Enfant Plaza to either the orange line toward Vienna or blue line toward Franconia-Springfield. Get off at Farragut West stop.
