  1. Valerius Meet the Teacher Night August 18, 2016

  2. Mrs. Mataloni’s Information: • I have been teaching for 28 years in Urbandale! I started my teaching career at Karen Acres and have been teaching at Valerius for 25 years. I attended the University of Northern Iowa and currently live in Urbandale. • In my free time I enjoy cooking, baking, exercising, sporting activities, and spending time with my family. • I have three children: David, Allie, and Andie who keep me super busy!! We have a new puppy, Sophie, who is a chocolate lab.

  3. Classroom Expectations • Code of Cooperation • Classroom Learning Chart • If needed a note is sent in the planner or an e-mail to the parent describing what happened that day for further parent follow up. • Students are expected to be in the classroom and ready to learn at 8:50a.m. • Per the school policy cellphones are to be on silent, in backpacks for the entire day which includes the bus line.

  4. Mission and Learning Goal • Mrs. Mataloni’s 3rd grade students at Valerius will learn, make friends, be respectful, responsible, and have fun at school. We will try our best at all times! • Learning goal: May 2017 all Valerius 3rd graders will attain reading benchmark reading level P as measured by Fontas and Pinnell Benchmark Level.

  5. Homework Policy and Plan • Planners are the communication tool for the daily homework as well as changes to the schedule. It is expected the planner is signed nightly and returned to school the following day. • Everyday math homework will come home daily and needs to be returned the following day. For you to help your child with the math, monthly parent letters will come home which explain the concept being covered as well as the answer sheet for your reference. • At home each month the children are expected to read a chapter book at their level. This book should be started at the beginning of the month and finished by the end of the month. A project will be completed in the classroom with this book. • Students need to study the spelling words in their planner nightly to understand the meaning of each word, as well as the spelling skill being taught. These words will be tested weekly.

  6. Parent Communication Plan • I will communicate with you the following ways: • Planner • Bi-monthly e-mail

  7. Birthdays • Please refrain from having your child pass out invitations at school. We need to be respectful to all the children’s feelings. • Your child is welcome to bring treats for his/her special day. These treats need to be store bought and please send napkins with these treats. Please, please, please try have the treats ready to serve. I don’t want to take instructional time cutting cakes, cookies, etc.

  8. Parent Communication Plan • How Parents can most easily communicate with me: • Email for non-time sensitive needs (24 hour turn around is our goal) • Call office for immediate needs (457-6500). • During instructional time: Mrs. Johnson will get a message to the classroom • Before/after school: Mrs. Johnson will transfer a call back to the classroom. • Please do not send an email to me later than 1:00 for a change in your student’s after school plan, sometimes I can’t get to my email. • Planner: feel free to write a note in planners
