  2. Objectives: By the end of this lecture, the student will be able to: 1. List the composition of the eye ball 2. Mention the function of the cornea

  3. Anatomy of the eye - The eye ball is the organ of vision Coats of the eye ball: They are: • 1- The fibrous coat: • it is the outer layer. It is formed made of: • Sclera: forms the posterior part of the fibrous coat. It is opaque. It is directly continuous anteriorly with the cornea. • The cornea: it is transparent. It is in contact with the aqueous humor. It is devoid of blood vessel. • -Function of the cornea: Refraction of light.

  4. 2- Vascular coat: • it is consists of: • Iris: it is the pigmented part of the eye ball. It has a central opening called the pupil. • Ciliary body • choroid 3- Nervous coat: • it is formed by the retina. It is sensitive. The optic nerve is attached to retina.

  5. Contents of the eye ball: • Aqueous humor: it is a clear fluid. It fills the space anterior to the lens. It supplies the avascular cornea & lens with nutrients. • Lens: it is transparent. It lies between the iris anteriorly & the vitreous body posteriorly. • Viteous body: fills the eye ball behind the lens. It is a transparent gel.
