  4. The Mission • Three of China’s wealthiest cities • At the forefront of China’s economic reform for 30 years • Mature and transparent business environment • Local leadership with vision and drive • Consumer market with combined population of 37 million Shanghai Hangzhou Guangzhou

Guangzhou -广州 • Hub of China’s most mature manufacturing and export base in the country. • Twinned with Bristol; last year the two cities celebrated the 10th anniversary of their sister relationship • one of China’s most preferred foreign investment destinations • last year registered a double-digit economic growth

Hangzhou -杭州 • A newly emerging centre of consumer power on the Yangtze River Delta • Rebranded traditional tourist destination (the city’s famous West Lake was included on the UNESCO World Heritage Site list in 2011) • Newly designated national “model green city”. • Famous for its thriving private sector – the birthplace of Alibaba Group, the country’s largest e-commerce enterprise

Shanghai - 上海 • The country’s major financial centre, port and commercial hub. • Walt Disney to unveil its first Disneyland Park in mainland China in Shanghai in 2015 - the city is spearheading a new drive to develop creative industries, with an emphasis on digital media, design and animation.

Itinerary November 10th – Saturday • Arrive Guangzhou November 11th – Sunday • Day at leisure/individual plans November 12th – Monday • Meetings with Guangdong General Chamber of Commerce and Guangzhou International • Investment Promotion Council • IOD VIP Business Reception with Municipal Government and Chinese and UK business communities November 13th – Tuesday – Guangzhou • Individual follow-up meetings; bespoke meetings where commissioned • Flight to Hangzhou November 14th – Wednesday – Hangzhou • Meeting with the local Bureau of Foreign Trade and Cooperaion • Seminar on green architecture/sustainable development • Reception with local Chinese and UK business people

Continued November 15th – Thursday – Hangzhou • Site visits: EDZ (Eco-City zone) HZ Hi-tech industry Development Zone (Alibaba, Netease, Zhongnan Cartoon and Animation) HZ North Software Park (software, e-commerce, creative industries, outsourcing) • Individual follow-up meetings •     Late afternoon train to Shanghai • Shanghai: informal drinks with the British Chamber of Commerce and their members November 16th – Friday – Shanghai • Joint CBBC briefing with the British Consulate-General Shanghai on Greater Shanghai opportunities • Relevant group meetings/individual follow-up meetings November 17th – Saturday – Shanghai • Leisure time • Mission programme ends
