Truth must always be upheld. • We are emboldened to “test the spirits whether they are of God”. 1 Jn. 4:1 • To abide in the doctrine of Christ. 2 Jn. 9 • To work out our salvation with fear and trembling. Phil. 2:12 • What happens, however, when we’re trying to grow in our understanding of the Lord and how to worship/serve Him? 2 Pet. 3:18 Introduction

Have you ever dreaded being in a Bible class where… • Contention seems to always be present? • No one dares speak out or ask questions because of a divisive person? • You felt like walking on egg shells when answering a question? • Such is not conducive to the study of God’s word. Introduction

  4. This sermon takes a proactive approach to our demeanor within a Bible class or discussion among others, especially those in Christ.

  5. What happens when one dogmatically misapplies context (though they think themselves completely in the right)?How about when another challenges them with equal dogmatism? • This is when things get tense, where our moodchanges, and our VOICEbecomes defensive or worse, intimidating. “Tense” Situations

  6. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies. 1 Cor. 8:1 • We’re not to be quarrelsome, but kind to all. 2 Tim. 2:24 • With gentleness we are to correct those in error. 2 Tim. 2:25 • Do all things without grumbling or disputing. Phil. 2:14f Working on Our Tense, Voice, & Mood

  7. Standing for truth is not license to hinder another’s need to grow in God’s word. Rom. 14:10-13 • Too many souls among God’s children will be lost because they did not learn how to use their voice, control their mood, and allowed situations to become unnecessarily tense. Conclusion
