  1. SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES AND HOW TO PREVENT THEM Young people ages 15 to 24 account for half of all new STDs, although they represent just 25% of the sexually experienced population.

WHAT ARE SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES ? • Sexually transmitted diseases (STD), also referred to as sexually transmitted infection (STI) and venereal diseases (VD), are infections that are commonly spread by sex, especially vaginal intercourse, anal sex and oral sex. • Bacterial STIs include Chlamydia , Gonorrhea, and Syphilis among others. • Viral STIs include Genital herpes, HIV/AIDS, and Genital warts among others.

  4. HIV/AIDS Human immunodeficiency virus infection and acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS) is a spectrum of conditions caused by. infection with thehuman immunodeficiency virus(HIV). It spreads by unprotected sex (including anal and oral sex) contaminated blood transfusions, hypodermic needles, and from mother to child during pregnancy, delivery, or breast feeding. As the infection continues, it interferes more with the immune system increasing the risk of common infections like tuberculosis, as well as other opportunistic infections, and tumors that rarely affect people who have working immune systems.

SYMPTOMS FOR HIV/AIDS Early Stage Symptoms • Fever • Headache • Fatigue • Diarrhea • Swollen lymph nodes • Weight loss • Muscle Aches • Mouth Ulcers Late Stage Symptoms • Rapid Weight Loss • Pneumonia • Recurring fever or profuse night sweats • Chronic diarrhea • Memory loss, depression, and other neurologic disorders • the appearance of discolored or purplish growths on the skin or inside the mouth • Sores of the mouth, anus, or genitals

  6. GENITAL HERPES AND GENITAL WARTS Genital warts are growths on the skin of the genital area and around the anus caused by certain types of the human papilloma virus (HPV). They are passed from one person to other by skin to skin contact during the sex . The Signs and symptoms for this disease are itching in your genital area, bleeding with intercourse and Small, flesh-colored or gray swellings in your genital area. Genital herpes is genital infection caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV).It is highly contagious,Carriers can transmit the disease without having any symptoms of an active infection. Symptoms for this diseases are pain or itching within 10 days of exposure to infection ,ulcers and scabs which may appear after some day and sores may be developed on mouth , penis , vaginal area , cervix ,thigh.

  7. CHLAMYDIA Chlamydia is a bacterial STD that is transmitted during anal, oral, or vaginal sex with someone who is infected with chlamydia. Symptoms are no visible immediately ,it make take few week to develop following the infection to occur. Symptoms in women may include abnormal vaginal discharge , abdominal pain ,painful intercourse , swelling around vagina or anus ,pain and burning while urinating and low-grade fever and yellow discharge from cervix that have strong smell. Symptoms in men may include swollen testicles , swelling around anus , Pain or burning while urinating.

  8. GONORRHEA It is an infection caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae during the sexual contact. It can infect the penis, vagina, cervix, anus, urethra, or throat. The infection is usually spread fromvaginal, oral, or anal sex. Men have a 20% risk of getting the infection from a single act of vaginal intercourse with an infected woman. The risk for men that have sex with men is higher. Women have a 60–80% risk of getting the infection from a single act of vaginal intercourse with an infected man. Symptoms in women may include abdominal pain , swelling or tenderness of the vulva , painful intercourse and fever. Symptoms In men may include pus-like discharge from the penis , pain or burning feeling while urinating

  9. METHODS TO PREVENT STDS Use Condoms to avoid the contact with body parts and fluids through which we can get affected by Sexually transmitted diseases. Abstain from doing oral sex , vaginal sex or anal sex. Avoid sharing Towels and underclothing Get tested for Any infection on regular intervals Get vaccination before initiation of sexual contact to avoid infection
