  5. Scholarship Information

  6. Coca-Cola Scholarship The application is now open. Merit based scholarship. Applicants should have strong leadership skills, GPA 3.0, extracurricular activities, including community service. Scholarships range from $10,000 to $20,000. • Applicants must apply online at www.coca-colascholars.org

  7. NASSP/Herff Jones Principal’s Leadership Aware Scholarship Program • Ranging from $1000-$12,000 will be awarded 100 seniors from 50 states • Winners are selected by leadership skills, academic record, volunteer work, etc.

  8. NASSP/Herff Jones Principal’s Leadership Aware Scholarship Program • Students CANNOT apply; must be NOMINATED by their high school. • 1 student may be nominated per high school • Nominees will be in 20% of their class

  9. NASSP/Herff Jones Principal’s Leadership Aware Scholarship Program • Students will leadership skills and are not in 20% can still be nominated • Please see Ms. Venega in Guidance if interested • Deadline for prescreen application is November 11, 2011

  10. NC State University (College of Textiles) • Ten $47,000 scholarships will be awarded to freshmen entering the College of Textiles each year. This scholarship will cover over 60% of the basic in-state cost of attending NC State University.

  11. NC State University(College of Textiles) • Students interested in being NOMINATED for this scholarship please see Ms. Venega in Guidance. Deadline for prescreen application to Guidance in October 26, 2011.

  12. UNC-Chapel Hill (The Thomas Wolfe Scholarship) • Full undergraduate support for student writers. Complete information is available on the University’s website at http://englishcomplit.unc.edu/creativ/scholarships/tws. • Deadline: November 1, 2011

  13. Davidson College (John Montgomery Belk Scholarship) • The Belk Scholarship recognizes and awards students of demonstrated superior intellectual and personal achievement and significant leadership. • If interested see Ms. Venega in Guidance.

  14. Davidson College (John Montgomery Belk Scholarship) • Up to 8 scholars will be chosen in Davidson’s Class of 2016, each receiving an annually renewable scholarship equal to the college’s fees (valued in 2011-12 at $49,723.) • Deadline for prescreen application is Nov. 4, 2011.

  15. Emory University (Atlanta Georgia) • Merit-based scholarships are available for students who are interested in attending Emory University. • NOMINATION REQUIRED • Deadline: November 8, 2011

Horatio Alger Association Scholarship Program • The Horatio Alger Association of distinguished Americans is dedicated to the simple but powerful belief that hard work, honesty and determination can conquer all obstacles. Must submit an ONLINE application at www.horatioalger.org • Deadline: October 30, 2011

  17. To be eligible for this scholarship: • Applicants must have strong commitment to complete a bachelor’s degree, • Critical financial aid $50,000 or less, extracurricular activities • GPA 2.0 • Resident/citizen of the U.S. Students

  18. 2011 Prudential Spirit of Community Awards • The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program recognizes high school youth solely on the basis of volunteer work in their communities after September 1, 2010. • Essay required • School nomination required

  20. UNC-Charlotte (The Levine Scholars Program) • 4 year scholarship includes full tuition, room, a grant to 4 summer experiences that will develop leadership skills, social awareness, and an international perspective • Valued at $90,000 for in state students

  22. College Application Week • November 14-18, 2011 Last year… 5 days 116 school districts 470 high schools 44,000 applications 1 common dream achieved

SAT Prep 2-Day WorkshopOctober 25 and 26, 2011 Featuring Dr. Joseph Aicher Jr. Day 1: 8:30am -12:30pm Day 2: 8:30am - 12:30pm (On Day 2, at 5:00pm Dr. Aicher will consult with students and parents about their test results) This workshop is limited to 30 students Students MUST bring pencils, paper, and a calculator to the workshop. Sign up in the Guidance Office TODAY!

  24. SAT & ACT Announcement • Seniors and Juniors: If you eat free or reduced lunch you may be eligible for a fee waiver for the SAT Test and College Applications. See your Guidance Counselor for information.

  25. FSU • Fayetteville State University will be holding on-site admission on campus Monday, October 10th during lunch. SEE GUIDANCE FOR MORE INFO.

  26. Indian Education Resource • Student/ Parent night with IBM, American Indian Science and Engineering Society. • When: Monday, October 10th • Refreshments will be served at 6:00 pm • Students and parents are invited!

  28. AVIATION DAY • Any sophomore interested in attending Aviation Day, please see Ms. Leslie Epps Jacobs in guidance.

  29. STUDENT OF EXCELLENCE • Student of Excellence applications for ALL grade levels are available in guidance and are due back to the counselor on November 18, 2011.

  30. BETA/ NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY • There will be a Beta/ National Honor Society meeting on October 11, 2011 in the media center. For additional information, see Ms. Demetrice in Guidance.

  31. The ASVAB will be given on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 in the media center. Please sign up in guidance by October 10, 2011.

  32. Youth Rally at the football field on October 31 @ 6:30.

  33. JOIN THE ART CLUB! • Students who are in Art class or have taken an art class may join the Art Club! • See Mrs. Godwin in room 802. • Price is : $15.00

  34. UPWARD BOUND • The representative for the University of Colorado Upward Bound will be at Indian Education on Sunday Oct. 16. • There will be a brief explanation of the Upward Bound program for 9th and 10th graders. • Any student that would like to attend this workshop please sign up with YDS.

  35. ATTENTION STUDENTS • Students may register online for the SAT/ACT Test or pick up an application in Guidance. Register before it is too late!

  39. Dressing for Success • Teachers are encouraged to offer classroom incentives to students who “Dress for Success.” Each week a student will be randomly selected by administration to receive a $10 gift card to www.MyLocker.net for the purchase of Purnell Swett gear.

  40. Robeson County Teen Court • Any Students interested in participating in the Robeson County Teen Court program please stop by Guidance for more information by Oct. 13, 2011

  41. Student Accident Insurance • Students if you are interested in Student Accident Insurance we do have the forms in the Main Office---Homeroom teachers also received a handout with a web-site so that you can go on-line and register.

  42. SAT & ACT DEADLINES! • November 5, 2011 SAT Test is October 7, 2011. Late fee required date is October 8-21, 2011. • December 10, 2011 ACT Test is November 4, 2011. Late fee required date is November 5-18, 2011. • Students may register online for the SAT/ACT Test or pick up an application in Guidance.

  43. If a student signs up for Driver’s Education and then drops the class, they must wait until all students have had a chance to take the class, before signing up again.

  44. Listen Up! • If you’re not present the first day of Driver’s Education you will not be enrolled on the second day unless you have a doctor’s note.

  45. HOSA Club • Anyone interested in joining HOSA please pay $20 to Sue Patterson, Tina Hunt, or Tyra Moore.

  46. ART CLUB • Congratulations to Jessica White, Art IV-A for being the 2nd place winner in the Robeson County fair Art Competition in Lumberton, NC.
