Jaundice, also known as icterus, is characterized by the yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes due to an excess of bilirubin in the blood, often linked to liver dysfunction. This overview explores the types of jaundice—hemolytic, obstructive, and hepatocellular—and discusses common symptoms such as weakness, headache, and yellow discoloration. Causes of jaundice range from liver inflammation and gallstones to unsanitary conditions. Prevention strategies, including medication and phototherapy, are also addressed, providing insight into management and treatment.
