Why alligatorweed is bad • Non-native to the United States • Very invasive plant that produces thick mono-cultures which choke out native plants • Hard to eradicate when established • Perfectly at home in Oklahoma’s climate and habitats • Hinders recreational activities (boating, fishing, swimming) • Can cause stagnant water i.e. fish kills • Popular filler plant in the horticulture trade • Chemical removal is costly and messy

  4. What to look for • Opposite leaves • Hairs at nodes • Pink or red nodes along stem • Small, white, clover like flower • Hollow stem • Can grow on bank or in water
