  2. Past Tense & Present Perfect Past Tense: “He went to the library yesterday.” What experiences are you sure about from the above sentence? Exs: “He has been to the library.” “He has gone to the library this week.” “He has seen the inside of the library.” “He has (probably) used some library facilities. Not certain experiences: He has checked-out books from the library. He has used the computers in the library. He hasn’t been to the library today. He has been in the library since yesterday.*

  3. Words that “begin” long-term actions started began moved bought got • I started playing golf last year. (I am still playing golf.) Common mistake: “I have started playing golf for a year.” Certain experiences: “I have played golf for a year.”

  4. Words that “begin” long-term actions started began moved bought got met • She moved to Gyeongju in 2007. (She is still living here now.) Common mistake: “She has moved to Gyeongju since 2007.” Certain experiences: “She has lived in Gyeongju since 2007.”

  5. DiCaprio’s actions: • bought a home in NY in 2009 • met Tobey Maguire in 1990 • started smoking when he was a teenager • produced his first movie in 2004 • (continues to produce them) • bought an island in Brazil two years ago • Portman’s actions: • starred in her first movie in 1994 • (continues to star in movies) • took her first dance class when she was five • had her first child last year • got a dog a few years ago • started running ten years ago
