Causes of Stress • Stressors are anything that causes stress. • Biological stressors, such as illnesses • Environmental stressors, such as noise, crowds • Cognitive stressors, perception of the situation • Personal Behavior: negative actions of the body and mind caused by behaviors. • Life situation stressors: death, divorce, relationships

  4. Body’s Response to Stress • “Fight or Flight” response • Fatigue • Physical: body becomes tired • Psychological: mind becomes tired • Pathological: can’t fight off disease

  5. Ways to Manage Stress • Plan Ahead • Get adequate sleep • Get regular physical activity • Eat nutritious foods • Avoid tobacco, alcohol and other drugs
