  1. Catalyst #3 Pg. 11 A species of finch has been studied on one of the geographically isolated Galapagos Islands for many years. Since the island is small, the lineages of every bird for several generations is known. This allows a family tree of each bird to be developed. Some family groups have survived and others have died out. The groups that survive probably have Interbred with other species Inherited some advantageous variations. Found new places of the island to live Been attacked by more predators Justify why your answer choice is correct.

  3. Where We’re Going Today • Students will be able to predict organisms likely to be affected by natural selection based on their phenotype. • Students know why alleles that are lethal in a homozygous individual may be carried in a heterozygote and thus maintained in a gene pool.

  4. Pre Lab Vocabulary pg. ______(30 min) • Use the biology book to define the following words. • Start by rating each word with how well you understand each word. • Some words we have not learned and you will need to use the book to look up. • Use the index first!

  5. Natural Selection Lab Groups/Demo (20 min) • Choose a role for each 4 members • If someone is missing in your group someone is going to have 2 roles.

  6. Behavior Expectations • 40 minutes to complete the 4 rounds • Read all directions • Your voices should be at a level that I cannot hear across the classroom • Stay within your groups
