The workplace is a much different environment compared to school or even the home. • In a work environment, communication is important. • Making sure someone can understand what you're saying in a clear way can mean the difference between helping and hurting the place you work.
Clarity and Being Concise • In the workplace, make sure that your communication is clear. Be concise. • Deadlines and a fast-paced environment make communication hard enough. • A long-winded story or an informal conversation can hamper workplace communication.
Methods of Communication • An important part of workplace communication is the way in which people in the workplace communicate. • Workers interact through: • Memos • Emails • Business Letters • Meetings
Memos • Usually short updates or summaries for specific groups of people, especially in a large company.
Emails and Business Letters • Email and business letters work the same way they do outside of the workplace; however, work emails and business letters are usually less personal. • They mostly focus on what is happening in the workplace.
Meetings • They are a chance for workers to raise concerns, propose motions (ideas), and keep current on certain changes in a company. • Meetings are usually kept track of in minutes (not in time, but a series of summaries).
As it is outside of work, face-to-face is always the best way to communicate with coworkers.
