  1. summer running Cross-country is a fall sport that really begins in June. Consistent training over the summer will get us ready to compete in the fall and will help prevent injuries. To help keep motivated and consistent in our training, anyone planning to participate next year in XC will start running together several times a week beginning June 2nd. Sometimes we will run from the high school, sometimes at Point Defiance, sometimes from a coaches house – check online at www.curtisxc.blogspot.com for a schedule!! Typically in the summer we meet on Mondays at 4pm, and Tuesday-Fridays at 10am Interest meeting for all runners interested in joining Curtis XC 2014 on Monday, June 2nd, 2:15-2:45 pm in the CHS Gym Classroom (next to the Aux Gym). invitationals and dual meets In early September, we will begin having meets. We will go to 3 or 4 invitational meets, which are on Saturdays. We also will have 4 league meets on Wednesdays against teams from the South Puget Sound League South Division. Curtis will be hosting the Curtis Invitational at Chambers Creek Properties on Saturday morning, October 4th. first official practice The first official practice will be Monday August 25th. We will meet at the CHS Gym Classroom at 3:30pm and be off and running. At this time, all paperwork needs to be completed, ASB fees paid, physical, etc. Remember – this is just the first official practice – not the first day of training. league, district and state At the end of the season, there are 3 big meets. There is a league championship meet – all 17 South Puget Sound League teams compete. The top 9 teams from this meet get to run at the District meet. The top 7 teams from District move on to the State Championship in Pasco.

Curtis Vikings Cross Country 2014 looks to be a special year as we train hard all summer, try and wrap up an SPSL South Division Championship, and qualify both girls and boys teams to the State Championship meet in Pasco in early November.  Come join us! The boys and girls teams do some training together and they travel to the same meets.  Meets have separate boys and girls races.  Cross county is for people that love to run - but it's not just for them.  If you play basketball or soccer or compete in other athletic events, cross country is a great way to get in shape.  If you don't play those sports and you're not sure you like to run, but you're looking for the challenge to push yourself and to be part of a team, then cross country might be for you also. Can't race 3 miles?  Not even sure if you can even run 3 miles?  Come out and try!  You'll be surprised what can happen when you start training consistently. Just a beginner? Don't let that stop you.  Many beginners that had the courage to turn out end up running varsity before the season is over.
