  3. Born in a merchant family in Guangdong, Jeme Tien Yow, a distinguished Chinese railroad engineer, showed a great interest in machines in his teens and often spent time making machine models with mud. In 1872, Jeme was luckily sent by the Qing government to the United States and returned to China after he graduated from Yale University in 1881 with excellent grade. Having overcome various difficulties, Jeme Tien Yow managed to design and construct Beijing _Zhangjiakou Railway that even some foreign engineers were unable or unwilling to construct. JemeTien Yow died in Hankou in 1919 at the age of 58. For his great contributions to the railroad engineering in China, he was called the “Father of China’s Railway” and “Father of China’s Modern Engineering.

  5. Dear mom and Dad: Thank you for everything you have done to make it possible for me to go to college. I know it is hard for you to let me go, but I truly am ready to be on my own. This is a very exciting time for me, as well as a frightening one. It is a big change---going back to be a freshman again. I nned your support and belief in me.

  6. 读写任务: In the letter, Tom mainly express his love and respect to his parents. He hopes his parents can support him in many aspects such as keeping in touch, giving him more freedom and trusting him.

  7. After reading the letter, I believe Tom is lucky to have such considerate parents, who are concerned about him very much. As we know, parents are so selfless that they devote their life to their children through sometimes their children may not understand them.

  8. For example, my parents prepare everything well for me such as cooking dinner and washing clothes. They help me deal with all the problems I am faced with not only in daily life but also in study. Of course, sometimes I argue with them when I feel frustrated because they have difficulty in understanding my behavior. But I love them and respect them.

  9. In my opinion, nobody will be perfect in the world, but we could expect our parents to be perfect. Perfect parents may be knowledgeable, wise, brave, hardworking, considerate and so on. We expect them to be our friends as well.
