Efficiency and effectiveness • When BUGS move it cannot be just to look at the view – they’re burning fuel and risking being eaten! So they move in the best way for their environment. • Did you think about the waterboatmen? How do they move?
Efficiency and effectiveness • Fuel burning is the reason that robots also have to move effectively. The Model T Ford (one of the first motor cars) did about 13 – 21 miles to the gallon. Even a Rolls Royce nowadays does better than that. • So how do ROBOTS move? Do they all move anyway? Hmmmm....
Thinking time - 2 • Name some robots from TV/movies and how they move... • Name some robots in your home – do they move? Why – or why not? • In each case – how do they use as little fuel as possible to do what they need to – and no more???? • How do the TV/film ones cheat – or are they accurate, do you think?

You’re at home, and mom says, ‘Go to the store and buy some bread, the money’s on the table.’ • Well YOU know what to do, right? • What would the computer do...?
