QUESTIONS. A lot of most conversations is made of asking and answering questions. Because of this, it is a very important part of language. But many students find it very hard to make accurate questions. Look at the following sentence. Des watches Teletubbies.

  1. QUESTIONS A lot of most conversations is made of asking and answering questions. Because of this, it is a very important part of language. But many students find it very hard to make accurate questions.

  2. Look at the following sentence. Des watches Teletubbies. What part of speech is each word in the sentence? Des watches Teletubbies. Subject verb object

  3. Des watches Teletubbies. Des watches ____?_____ Now we don’t know what Des watches so we have to ask him a question to find out. We know who the subject is, it is Des. We know the activity (verb), it is watch. We don’t know the object, so we will have to ask an object question to find out.

  4. Object questions Look at the object questions below. Some are present tense, some are past and some are future. What does Des watch? What do you watch? What can you do? Where do you go to school? How many brothers have you got? What did you do last night? When did you have your first English lesson? What will you eat for dinner tonight? Where will you go for your next holiday? Do you notice anything about all the questions? Now go to the next slide.

  6. Object questions Because there are “rules” for grammar, there are often “patterns” in a language. In object questions, in present, past and future simple tenses, we can see this pattern.
