Predictors of Foot Ulceration in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis: A Case-Control Study
This case-control study examines risk factors for foot ulceration in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). A total of 15 RA patients with foot ulcers and 66 control patients were analyzed. Key findings revealed that an abnormal ankle-brachial pressure index (ABPI), current steroid therapy, and the presence of pre-ulcerative lesions were significant predictors of foot ulceration. Notably, factors such as foot deformity and raised plantar pressures did not show significant associations. These insights contribute to understanding foot ulceration risks in RA and highlight areas for further research.
