  2. Ezra Pound (1885-1972) • Born in ID, lived in PA before moving throughout Europe • Became involved in fascist politics • Arrested in US for fascist propaganda, declared insane and committed • Helped discover many of his contemporaries, including Eliot, Joyce, Frost, and Hemingway

  3. Imagist Poetry • Pounds Definition: • “that which presents an intellectual and emotional complex in an instant of time." • Tenets of Poetry: • I. Direct treatment of the "thing," whether subjective or objective. • II. To use absolutely no word that does not contribute to the presentation. • III. As regarding rhythm: to compose in sequence of the musical phrase, not in sequence of the metronome.

  6. Split Into Four Groups! • Each group will be given an image • Each person in each group will write an imagist poem • Anonymously and as a group, pick the best one • As a class, we will pick the best one from each group’s best • CANDY IF I REMEMBER TO BUY IT
