The Germans • Push and Pull Factors • Push: They felt pushed by war, taxes, and religious persecution. • Pull: William Penn recruited Germans to settle in Pennsylvania. • German immigrants could obtain a farm 6 times larger than a typical peasant holding in Germany.
Africans and Transported to America • Slaves, in the early 1600s, were treated like indentured servants. • What's the difference? • As years progressed, it was more custom to treat all Africans like slaves. • English associated the color of black with darkness and evil. • They stamped different appearance, behavior and customs of Africans as “savagery”. • Why do you think they did this??
