  2. Are these two triangles the same? Click here to continue lesson We will learn the three different transformations; translation, reflection, and rotation.

  3. Menu Click here for directions Translation Reflection Rotation Once you have mastered the information click on the sun to take the quiz.

  4. Translation Translation is the moving of a shape, without rotating it or flipping it. It is the exact same shape and angle, just in a different place. “Sliding” Click here to see examples!

  5. Example Remember every point moves the same distance in each direction. Click here for real life example.

  6. Real Life Example The distance of each point of the pans is the same Back to Menu

  7. Reflection Every point is the same distance from the central line and is the same size as original shape. Central line is called the mirror line Click on the picture and find what another name for mirror line is. Lets learn a little more…click here

  8. Example Remember reflection is only a “flip” over the mirror line. Click on me for a real life example

  9. Real Life Example This is an everyday life example of reflection. Would you have noticed the mirror line without assistance? Click here to go back to menu

  10. Rotation “Turning around the center” The distance from the center to any point stays the same. Every point makes a circle around the center Click on picture to find which direction rotations are done Click on me to learn more!

  11. Lets learn a little more Rotations is known as the “spinning” of an object around a fixed point. In this image the fixed point is the dot on the bottom left corner Click here for real life example

  13. Question #1 Which of the following transformations is known as “spinning” the object around a fixed point? Translation Rotation Reflection Click on image to check your answer

  14. Question # 2 What is another name for mirror line? Fixed point Line of Symmetry Line of Reflection

  15. Question # 3 Which transformation is the is the moving of a shape, without rotating it or flipping it. Rotation Translation Reflection

  16. Question # 4 In rotation which way does the transformed object move? Clockwise Counterclockwise Every point is the same distance as original

  17. Question #5 Which of the following transformation is demonstrated in the picture? Translation Reflection Rotation
