  2. Workshop • You will discuss how the international society can design a sustainable solution to the Korea conflict • 5 groups of 8 persons • 45 minutes • Followed by a plenum debate where each group presents its argument Ras Tind Nielsen NIAS - Nordic Institute of Asian Studies

Workshop • Consider and prioritize what you find the most important components of a sustainable solution: • continued isolation of North Korea? • focus on nuclear non-proliferation? • economic development? • continuation of the trade embargo? • regime change? • another ‘Sunshine policy’? • Normalization of US-NK relations? • Other dimensions? ROK & DPRK, (reduce USA militarypresence, not agressionclause), (2) Economiccooperation/enhancement, (3) Aid leading to AEIA inspections • Group 3: (1) Bilateral talks betw. The Six party members -> incorporate DPRK intointl. Community (2) Sunshine policy to reduce tensions and militarypresence, nosanctions (3) Offer alternative energy solutions and specialeconomic zones • Group 4: (1) opening of DPRK, (no support regime change, intl. recognition, incl. India in negotationsbetw. DPRK and the intl. Community -> peacetreaty + reduction of USA militarypresence • Group 5: (1) dialogue (2) intl. openessincl. Six party talk -> signing of NPT by DPRK (3) sticks and carrots (carrot = culturalexchange, stick = inspections by AEIA)
