This publication addresses the significant challenges faced by seafarers due to piracy and armed robbery. The focus is on providing guidelines for shipping companies to support their employees, enhancing their welfare and safety before, during, and after piracy incidents. With insight from the MPH-Response Program (MPHRP), this document serves as a checklist for existing practices or a foundation for developing crisis response plans. Aimed at promoting resilience and recovery, it emphasizes the importance of prioritizing the needs of seafarers and their families amidst ongoing maritime threats.

  13. 1 Introduction In responding to the threat of piracy, or a seafarer becoming a victim of piracy and armed robbery, the seafarers play an important role. This publication provides guidance on ways that seafarers can be supported by their companies.   The guide may be more applicable to the needs of some companies than others and we are aware that many companies already have such plans in place and therefore may choose to use this publication as a checklist for current practice. Where a Company does not have a plan this document could be used to establish a plan of action.
