  2. El Pretérito • If the action started and ended at a definite time. Yo vi unapelículaanoche. Ella fue a Puerto Rico el veranopasado. Nosotroscomimos comida japonesa en eserestaurante.

  3. El Imperfecto • It describes actions in the past that do not have a clear beginning or end. Ex.Ellosteníanmiedocuandoveíanpelículas de terror. We can use the Imperfect to: • Talk about how old someone was. • Say what time it was. • Describe the weather. • Describe repeated actions (Things you used to do) • Give a description. • Talk about background events in a story.

  4. El Imperfecto We can use the Imperfect to: • Talk about how old someone was. - El tenía once añoseseverano. • Say what time it was. - Era la una de la mañanacuando me desperté. • Describe the weather. • Era un díanublado. • Habíamuchaniebla. • Llovía mucho.

  5. El Imperfecto • Describe repeated actions (Things you used to do) - Yojugaba con mismuñecascuando era niña. • Give a description. - Él era muysimpáticoconmigo. • Talk about background events in a story. - Cuando Gabriel teníacincoaños, Kennedy era el presidente de EstadosUnidos.

  6. El Imperfecto In English it is: • “used to do” something • “was/were doing” (was/were + verb ending in -ing)

  7. El Pretérito y El Imperfecto • We can use both tenses in the same sentence to talk about overlapping events.
