  3. Gobi Desert Desertification: The Gobi desert is expanding in a process known as desertification. It is expanding into China’s grassland. Dust storms have increased heavily damaging agriculture.Plants: The desert flora includes the Saxaul Tree, Saltwort, wild onions, desert shrubbery and grassAnimals: The desert is a home for many different animals like black-tailed gazelles, bactrian camels, wolves, marbled polecats, Mongolian wild ass, brown bears, snow leopards, and sandplovers. Size:The Gobi desert covers 1.3 million square kilometers and is elevated with hot summers and cold winters.Climate: Gobi is a very cold desert yet it rarely snows. It is located above sea level. Rainfall is up to 7.6 inches per anum.

There are two main seasons winter and summer. The winters are long and very cold and the summers are short and cool. It is so cold because of its high altitude. • One of the main animals of this mountainous biome is the yak. The yak can be over six feet tall and usually weighs 1,100-1,200 pounds.  • Oak, laurel and chestnut trees are also found up to 7,000 feet above sea level. Pine trees are found up to 12,000 feet above sea level; above that point only lichens, grass and moss can be found, since it is so cold in the higher regions. Only certain plants are designed to grow in such harsh conditions. Himalayas
