  2. Summary of Data • We encountered four different ant species over the 80 minute time period. • Small, black ant • Tiny, red ant • Small, brown ant • Striped abdomen ant • We also encountered a slug and a red-headed fly.

  3. Observations • The ants began to appear after 20 minutes. • They did not approach the food; instead, they sucked the juices out of the toilet paper. • Most of the ants were discovered on the under side of the toilet paper.

  4. Conclusions • We think this experiment may be more effective when given more time. • Thus, we are unsure of the competitive dynamics of the species because the data is insufficient. • However, we have observed that the small brown ants did not return after the small black ants and striped abdomen ants began to dominate the scene.
